So, in the past few days I’ve had some exciting moments. Like, for example, how for Christmas dinner yesterday, I wore a new sweater. It was cable knit, park green, and, oh, why yes, it was an XL. That means it was the first sweater I bought that was not a plus size shirt, which also means that I get to buy cheaper and cuter clothing without what I like to refer to as the “chubby charge”. This just means that clothes that are intended for plus sizes are any where from $5 to $20 more expensive than their “regular sized” counterparts.
Which is totally bogus.
So that was pretty cool to start with, and then today I went back to get a few more shirts, found them, bought them, and started to leave the store, when I passed the underwear section (if any of my brothers, male friends or family members are reading this, stop reading now). While I had tried on the shirts, my bra was literally flipping off me, so I figured it might not hurt to investigate a new bra.
If anyone doesn’t know, bra sizes go by chest size (the number) and cup size (the letter). Cup size isn’t actually the independent size of your breast, but the swell of the breast, so if your chest size reduces and your breast doesn’t, your cup size increases. All considered, this means I’m no longer a paltry B cup. I’m a D cup! A D! And not only does this mean that I feel a lot hotter in general, but it’s actually a huge achievement for me.
One of my biggest problems for the last several years is that clothiers typically assume that plus size women have incredibly gigantic breasts. While this can be true (most women gain and lose weight quickly in their bust) it was never true for me, and no one ever had my size. I couldn’t ever buy new bras, and when I did they were invariably expensive. They never were cute, they never seemed to fit me very well, and I’ve been absolutely aching to walk into Victoria’s Secret and actually buy something other than shoes and perfume.
Now, at a 38D, I just made my first (totally conservative and on sale) purchase from Victoria’s Secret (cue the “baby...baby!” commercial) . I’m sure my bra size will change again, and I’ll probably end up losing some weight from that area, but for now, I’m incredibly excited! And it’s the first really positive change I’ve had, and is it ever motivating. Bring on the exercise and healthy eating, it’s a whole new ball game!
