StomaphyX is a 30-minute revisional procedure to correct pouch stretching in patients who have had weight loss surgery, such as a duodenal switch or vertical sleeve gastrectomy. However, it is most commonly performed as a fix for gastric bypass. Like the new Transoral Gastroplasty (TOGA) procedure, StomaphyX is completed transorally, or through the mouth. First, an endoscopic camera and StomaphyX device is placed down the throat. The StomaphyX device will then re-fasten the stretched folds (or pleats) of the pouch opening together with staple-like fasteners. Ideally, this will return the pouch opening to its original size.
